Summer Hair Care

Hi everyone,

Today's post is going to be a few tips I have tried and tested myself when it comes to hair care. There is so many tips and tricks to getting thick and healthy hair with the perfect shine but you can only truly find out what works for you with trial and error.

1. Water.

I know it seems like the most obvious tip but water really is key to healthy hair. It helps to regulate and stimulate your bodies function which in return feeds the hair follicles which activates growth and prevents dry and damaged locks. Up your daily intake of water in the Summer time as our bodies will become dehydrated from the heat and we certainly wouldn't want our hair to suffer.

2. Coconut Oil.

Coconut oil or even almond oil does absolute wonders for your hair. In my opinion I wouldn't bother wasting big money on fancy brand-named, hyped up hair masks and oils when you can easily buy a tub or bottle of coconut/almond oil. Not only is coconut oil full of vitamins and essential fatty acids that nourish the scalp but it also helps to remove excess sebum. This puts the mind at ease to those who struggle to combat greasy hair and are worried to add in extra oils, a nice little bonus to this tip.

How to use: the saying "too much of a good thing" is in play here as you don't want to smother your hair in the oil.

  • Apply to dry/damp hair.

  • Heat up a small amount in your hands and apply throughout your hair.

  • Apply to roots for a scalp treatment.

  • Leave for 30 minutes minimum (if your hair needs that extra little bit of help you can wrap your hair in a towel and leave overnight).

  • Use warm water to rinse.

3. Avoid heat.

I know it's impossible to completely avoid using heat on your hair especially when you're in a rush to leave the house after a shower but you can definitely minimise the amount you apply.

  • Change your hair dryer to a cooler setting (it does the exact same job and also for you girls with colour treated hair this is definitely recommended as heat lets the colour pay off escape).

  • Try rinsing your hair with cool water (added tip: avoid over shampooing and amount of times you wash your hair as this will dry it out).

  • Minimise usage of hot tools.

  • Use a heat protecting serum/spray - my favourite is Mark Hills Styling Heat Protection which protects your hair from upto 235 degrees.

  • When in sunny weather wear a heat to prevent uv damage.
